Help with install ceiling box to DVL 45 degree elbow.

Today I brought the stove in and connected the DVL pipe to the ceiling box. Here's my setup.

Stove adapter, 6 ft DVL telescoping, a 45 elbow, 2 ft DVL, another 45 elbow to the ceiling box.

I had my local installer install the ceiling support box and 9 ft of class A pipe through the roof. The ceiling box is Duratech. 8DT-CS24-Z. On the bottom of the box is a crimped flange that comes down about 2 inches. I'm wondering if i need an adapter. The specs on the ceiling box state an adapter is not needed, but the fit is sloppy to the 45 elbow and im not able to screw the 45 into the crimped piece.

Does the crimped flange from the ceiling box just slide into? The ceiling box supposedly doesn't need an adapter.

At least I'll be able to secure the elbow to the box.

When I looked it up the description indicated something like double wall to single wall adapter. Maybe the ceiling box does not need an adapter if you have single wall from your stove? Check the application guide, or make a call if you have to. These things might be hard to return once you get it to try your dry fit.

I was looking for a ceiling support box in the DVL catalog. I didn't see a big box like yours. Supposedly this adapter "for a through the wall or ceiling support installation" I wonder if that can be used for support alone in some installs?

It would appear that that particular ceiling box is made for single wall pipe below but then it says in the specs, "

• Integrated adapter accepts either single-wall or doublewall stovepipe."

I have two duravent ceiling support boxes, one with double wall and one with single wall and the style of ceiling support box I used requires an adapter for whichever connector pipe chosen.



Can you remove the little nipple of single wall? Is it just snapped in? In your install, as with any but especially with your offset, I would want a positive connection so that the dang thing doesn't fall out.

Unfortunately, those videos are for the previous style support box which accepted the DVL adapter. We have that style. The new support boxes showed up last year. They have a crimped "universal" collar on them now that as Highbeam noted, the catalog says " Integrated Flue Extension accepts either single-wall or double-wall stovepipe.". This question came up last December. Here is the thread.

Well yuck. I just went on their website and the new 2025 catalog shows all of their support boxes with this style connection. I am not sure if this is a cost saving approach, but it sucks.

FWIW, Duravent is owned by Egeria Investments, the parent of the M&G Group. The only change I have heard of is the Duravent/Security was separated out to focus on the North American market in 2017. Has something in the company changed since then?

Hi again, just wanted to write in with an update in case anyone else has the same concern. I screwed the double wall pipe into the support box snout...

PS: Make sure the DVL is pointed in the correct direction
PPS: Many stoves do not need the DVL flue collar adapter. It often is too loose whereas the straight DVL stove pipe fits perfectly.

I found the ad and it says March last year:

I agree with you. The spec sheet shouldn't include double wall. It would be great with single.

It's not a spec sheet, it's a change in design from the manufacturer. This is the instruction for installing with DVL stovepipe.

Can you post pics of the stub out? Usually there’s an adapter piece you put in the box before you put the ceiling side pipe on. It should be obvious looking at what’s sticking out if the flue support box.

They changed the design. See above. The new ones come with a crimped stub out. The old design used the adapter.

Roger, It should be as simple as sliding the double wall stove pipe up, drilling and shoving three screws in.

From what I read, some people could see gaps when using double wall stove side. Is this something that you
take apart, or would you use red RTV? The OP was using two 45's and was worried about strength of the connection.

You shouldn’t have to put rtv on the joint, sometimes they’re really snug.

When I put mine in I made a wood brace on the top side to hold the adapter in, then I used a piece of wood and a deadblow hammer to seat it. It wasn’t horrible difficult, just needed some light taps.

That's the issue with the new boxes, it says you don't need an adapter. They give you that stub out for single wall.

Thanks BG. If my pipe went straight up I'd have no problem screwing it to the stub. The DVL slides right over it with room to spare. Probably too much room, but it's able to work with both single and double wall. For piece of mind, I ordered the adapter for a better fit with the offset.

The adapter has a stainless locking collar that protrudes from both sides. This inserts into flue opening in the old style support box and locks into place with a twist. I don't see how it is going to mate with the new style support box because there is no place for the stainless collar to insert into.
