California is baking this week. On Sept. 2nd it was 127º which is believed to be the hottest temperature that has ever been recorded in September anywhere on Earth. This is not the kind of record we need to see.

The majority of records the last 10 years have been on the "hotter" side (consistent with climate change). I.e. the gaussian distribution of a stable system (where records still happen, occasionally, but equally on both sides) is in flux.
