How hard is it???

Hey guys

In the coming 2-3 months I plan on installing a Class A Supervent chimney in my new garage. I have 23 feet of chimney as well as the T(and plug). However, I don't have a support brackets or a rain cap. All chimney was brand new and I got it all for $500 (for once the "luck" Gods were looking down at me They seem to pass by me often and this time made a pit stop!!). I only need about 12 feet of Class A chimney to get well above my garage roof.

So I think I am missing: wall thimble, couple of 15 degree elbows (avoid going through the overhang of the roof), 2 wall bands, wall support and a rain cap. Am I missing something?

How hard is it to install this setup??? I cringe at the idea of trying it however I am fairly handy, I just built my garage. I think it is the fact that it has to do with fire....

It's not too hard, the big thing is you have to get the clearances right. Probably the hardest part is installing the wall thimble, as it has to be framed into the wall with specific clearances. If you don't fall between a pair of wall studs, you have some finangling to to. I would try and avoid using offsets if you can, they are very expensive and you cannot look through your pipe. Go through the eave and install a roof flashing and storm collar. Also, a 12' run may not draft very good. I would consider going up at least 14' to 16' and getting a roof brace for the pipe. Very easy to do IMHO. But if you got all that pipe for 500 bucks, you got a hell of a deal.

Scotty: I think I may listen to your advice. I just remembered that the eaves I need to go through is simply on the gable end. I simply need to cut a hole and put the flashing. It will save some time and a bit of $. I can always add another piece for proper draft. Heck, I have it anyway!

Yes, I did get a great deal. $1000 worth of chimney for $500.

Any recommended websites for SUpervent parts?

I'm not saying these are the best deals out there, but this will give you some cross-reference and part numbers to look elsewhere. Superpro and Supervent pipes are interchangeable parts, each style will fit the other. Shop around. Hope this helps out a little.
