how is the englander stoves

man im sorry guys. just want to make the right decision. how is the englander stove vs the quads. i am on a tight budget and almost bought a quad 3100 today. but i know home depot has a good sale going on englader. maybe the quad 3100 is too big? dunno?. maybe go with the 2100?
now im looking at the darn englanders. good grief i have been dreaming about stoves for the past week and cant make up my mind.
and then what size do i look at in the englander?.
it will be going in a 20x15 living room with a 5ft wide opening going into a 20x15 kitchen. also hallway off the living room shooting down to the bedrooms.

please help im going crazy here :-S
 
I feel you pain! I went through the exact same thing and with the same choices and elected to go with the Englander. Couple reasons.

1. It was my first stove so I wanted to start modest.
2. The price....I could not beat it for a stove that doesn't have a bad rep. Yes, it's not a Cadilac but it will perform it's function fine I believe.

I bought the 30-AC rated up to 2,200sf but it sounds like that might be a little much for your space. Might want to look at the 13 but I will leave that up to the experts. The price is right.....now.
 
Maybe you will get a good one. Does not burn pellets complete, burn pot full of unburned pellets. Glass gets black. Mine had one of the exhust blower wires too close to the exhust blower bracket and it melted and took out the circuit board.

pretty sure your the only one talking about pellet stoves in this thread...........

Firebox on my Englander wood stove doesn't have any unburned pellets in it. I have looked and they hid the exhaust blower I guess cause I can't find it. Glass doesn't get black. Can't find the circuit board either.
 
You'll have no problems with the Englander EPA approved wood stoves. They are modern technology. I can't swear that the fit and finish meets a Quad, Lopi, etc - but certainly the heat should be as good as any stove of the same size firebox. The price of steel continues to go up through the roof, so I don't expect many future bargains in wood stoves. Grab something while you can.

As far as the sizing, it may be somewhat determined by how much wood you have - and also by the size areas, etc.

The Englander is a very good alternative to the Quad and to be honest performs at least as well. I have both and can tell you while the looks may not be as refined as some of the other stoves out there, they are serious heaters that perform very well.

My insert would be an Englander if they were rated for ZC fireplaces.
 
after some research i am starting to leen towards the englander 13nc. do they offer a blower for these?.
 
anything has got to be better than this EPA exempt stove i have. i am headed 2 miles to my home depot right now. thanks guys

Wow, I can't believe they want that much money for that stove. I had the Englander version of that (12-FP) prior to my 30 and I'm glad I made the switch. Waaaay more heat for much less wood.
 
I'd go for the 30, you can't make a smaller stove bigger later. We recently replaced a Fisher at my brother's house with the 30. The Fisher got so hot it would heat the walls and floor in the basement, in fact the floor was so hot(under and around) you had to wear shoes to load it. For all that heat it used gobs of wood. After we got the Englander in his wood consumption is down by 1/2 or better, he is heating the exact same house as warm or warmer, the floor isn't hot and there is never any smoke coming out the flue except on startup.

And he had to go with the Englander at Home Depot because he couldn't afford a higher end stove. I feel he got a great deal, great product and good company.

Which causes me to add, to the gentleman who has a pellet stove problem; there are a couple of folks here from Englander who would be happy to help you with your problems and stand behind their products: all you have to do is ASK for HELP>.

Do you need any more motivation?
 
I really wanted to buy a Quad 3100 step top, but I could not afford one.

I found a deal on an Englander 30-NC on Craigslist (brand new, still on the pallet, wrapped in plastic) for $550. I couldn't pass it up.

If I had to do over again, I'd jump on the Englander in a heartbeat. I'd even pay full retail for it. It's a great stove. I'm still learning, and struggling with wood that isn't ready yet, but the stove is doing well with what I'm giving it.

We just one of those pellet stoves we are having a hard time getting it to heat a medium size room in our basement, any word of wisedem of how to set the setting it is the englend stove that can burn corn or pellets.
