How often to change files for sharpening a chainsaw.

I use 2 in 1 Stihl sharpener and don't even remember when I changed my files. It still does the job and I see small shavings when sharpening. Wondering if there is a rule of thumb for when to replace it.
 
No set time, depends on how often and how aggressive you sharpen. Occasionally pop the end cap and rotate the round files so they wear evenly, I clean mine with an old toothbrush and compressed air regularly. They last a long time, but you can hear/feel when they stop biting, then swap them out.
