I got this old stove for my shop. Love the doors. However, I'm not sure if I should get this one going or buy a more modern unit.
All the tag says is a model 300 , and "Hurricane" on the lower left door March 1980. 8 inch opening for flue. The blower even works great, nice and quiet.

Any experience with this stove?

Most stoves operate on basic principles so it is not so much about having a certain brand. Some questions I would ask about this stove if I was to use it in my shop. How much wood is it going to consume? How much heat is it going to put into your shop VS going up the stack. Does this stove have a top metal plate inside to keep the heat from going straight up the stack? Does the stove have a way to regulate the heat such as a bi-metric coil?
Some of these questions can be answered by looking at the design of the stove. Does the Hurricane have a top plate inside to restrict the heat from going directly up the stack? The blower is certainly a plus which will help get some of the heat into your shop. I am thinking that this stove is going to use allot of wood as compared to the more efficient wood stoves. In order to figure out what is best all depends on how much time you spend in your shop and how large you shop is.
One man on another forum said he traded his Hurricane stove for a Fisher Grandma Bear and saw a major difference in the outputs.
I have tried finding this stove before on the internet and found only a few pictures some which linked back to this forum.
This stove has been discussed some on this Forum here https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/hurricane-stove.72925/
