I'm surprised to see the exhaust hood - not a lot of complaints from forum EB owners about smoke during loading. Do you recall what type of chimney the seller had (outside/inside, pipe/masonry)? Do you have much wood split(small) and stacked yet? Good luck with it, I'm sure you will be pleased by how well it heats you home!
Sounds like your saying the creosote was on the inside of the stove pipe connected to the boiler. If so, that almost certainly means the HX is also heavily coated with creosote, because the stuff normally doesn't ever make it past the heat tubes - that's where it collects in an Econoburn if poorly-seasoned wood is used. So, you will need to clean the heat tubes/turbulators before you start to burn. When you get ready to do that job, search this forum, and you will find threads on cleaning the EB HX (some dis-assembly and maybe a lot of cleaning required :rollGuy said:.... judging by the creasote on the pipe his wood wasn't real dry .....
. No rush on that, but your most important job right now is to get the wood re-split small. Get that completely done asap, in order to get the maximum benefit from the good seasoning months. If possible, stack it cross-hatched in single, separated rows in the best location you have for maximum sun and wind.
