To be fair, my basement stove is vented thru a window. One of those really small window that just let in some light, don't open or anything. In my case, the window was removed and plywood put in its place, with the thimble thru the plywood. Took this to be a common thing as the professional installers did that, and they didn't even have to cut up the plywood - they evidently keep that size of plywood on hand for such installs.
