I hear ya! Been real cold for a real long time - upper 30's today and felt so warm sitting in the sun. And so easy to keep the house nice and toasty! Enjoy the break, I'm sure it won't last long! Cheers!
Goin down to -9 here again tonight with single digits tomorrow, Its definitely getting frustrating, I found myself actually yelling at the wind the other day 
Perhaps I've just gone soft but it seems this winter is the coldest / windiest its been in a long time.

Yeah day after day of that cold was no fun. And me w/o the stove since last Saturday.
Early spring would be OK or at least some normal temps.

First time I have not let the stove go cold at least part of a day in a month ever. Saw zero last week for the first time in 20 years. And snow coming next week.
Yeah, I went out today in the sun and felt like it was Spring. At 40 degrees. Took a few minutes for my un-gloved hands to bring me to reality.

Same here. managed a few barrow fulls up near the house. I don't trust what's coming next.
I jackassed that stack that fell over into another one, second one in ten years, to the front of the shed so it can get in my way getting to the stuff in the back for the rest of the season. Usually don't move it till May. But didn't want to pick it up twice.

My stacks are staggered and about to go down for the count. Figure one more month and then we can start catching a glimmer of warmer weather. Next winter will be better prepared for, thats all i got to say.
Did pretty much the same thing. Pulling everything from the farthest away, so the closest is available.

You guys took a hit.
Been to WI, Portage/Endeavor. Vetted Da Dix on ice, and it was -40F below in the windchill. Coldest my butt has ever, ever been.
Have a serious new dose of ice here in mid Mo. Going to don skates and a rake tomorrow spreading gravel on the big hill. Sure glad I found that cured Osage Orange timber a couple days back! Marvelous heat!

Hang in there, Dix, I'm betting Phil doesn't see his shadow or he'll be overrun by an angry mob. Boys and I brought in he last 1/2 cord of "This year's" 3 cords from the shed today. After that I'll be robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Looked up the almanac data, surprised that this has not been the coldest of my 6th winter in VA (2010-11 is in the lead by a good margin still), though this January is the coldest month I've seen (not by much though). Has been MUCH colder than the last 2 winters. I'm only halfway through my stack though, so hopefully in good shape for the rest of the season! (55 and sunny today BTW! Great day!)
Here too. We've hovered around zero more days this month than in the previous 6 years. I'm getting really low burning three full loads a day. Today the boy and I broke out the saw and ax and dug through the pile of uglies.
Been in Northern VA for 30 years and the last time we saw these lows and highs was 1996. And they only lasted for a couple of weeks. Not a month.
10-11 was just a butt load of snow.

Was having drinks at place on the water and the inlet had frozen up. Hard to do because the water moves fast as the tide goes in and out. I remember the great South Bay freezing up when I was in my early teens. Guy drove his vw across.
I'm really glad you folks are getting a thaw. Your weather reports were worse than Alaska's. Hang in there. The days are getting longer.
I was working on my SIL's stove/stack yesterday with no jacket....temps was into the low 50's. A nice break but later in the week we are again flirting with single digits at night and highs in the teens.
I've been cursing this winter for months but my cries have been for naught, swallowed up and lost on the icy winds. It is definitely the "coldest/windiest it's been in a long time" in this neck of the woods.I found myself actually yelling at the wind the other day

Feeling the Heat
I'm working on my 5th cord of wood. I have the insert and stove(not complaining). I use the stove when it gets in the teens, so this year I'm chewing up a lot of wood. It's only the beginning of February, so I think I'll be dipping into next years very soon. Oh well, thank God we all have sources of heat to burn. Some people are going to owe the oil man for a long time!
This winter has seemed brutal but I was surprised a few nights ago when the local weatherman said it wouldn't even make the top ten coldest winter list in are area. He went on to say that the winter of 2009-10 was colder. I'm beginning to see that age may have as much to do with it as actual temps.

Depends on how they figure that too. We had a warm stretch after the first polar vortex so the avg goes up but 2 or 3 long cold snaps this winter so far.

I have been enjoying this winter because of the new Mansfield, always nice and warm when I get home from work. I'm outside all day , so its a real pleasure to watch the flames and feel the warmth. No doubt its been colder than usual but I'm using less wood as compared to the 32 previous years with my old Fisher Grandma bear. 10 to 12 hr burns and the house is at 66F at the lowest , I've learned that I need to change out the kitchen window above the sink for a more efficient unit . Single glass feels real cold.

Makes me feel a bit better that some other folks' stacks are taking a hit too.... I'm going into my 4th cord and thought I was doing something wrong. On the coldest days the 30 at its roaring best only took the edge off, and I lost sleep listening to the heat pump kick on.
