I want my 4.5 cuft Cat Cast Iron Stove and I want it NOW.

Oh, I really like the Equinox. I think the stove is sexy as heck. Plant a thermo controlled cat in the top of that baby and it could be a real serious contender.

The Defiant was giving me 8 hours on the low end and 14+ on the high end for useable heat last year. I suspect I will have it consistently at 10 or more this season. The Defiant is 3.2 cu ft which is about the same as the IR.

I'm not saying you should look at the Defiant, but I am saying that you probably would benefit from a cat stove or two since burn times are your biggest priority.

Thanks Huntindog, but I doubt that there is any better wood in the land. I am primarily white oak with osage, hard maple and hickory with some white ash mixed in. All properly seasoned and inside a nice dry building during the burning season.

You might be correct that the 4.0 could do it, but it is not a cat. The low and slow of a thermo controlled cat with a bigazz box is what I am looking for.

A two stove plan is not an option, hence the want for the big cat. I don't really need huge firepower, I need longevity.

Anyone hear how big that new Lopi Cape Cod Hybrid is going to be? Might be another stove to look at, suppose to go into production this month.

Cape Cod Hybrid is going to be a mid-sized stove, as I understand it, no monster 4.5 cu.footer. Also, their emphasis seems to be more on minimum emissions, than on long burn times. They're running the secondary burn and cat in series, if I understood the description correctly.

Lopi Facebook site says it's a large capacity stove so hopefully it's more like the 3cu ft Liberty.

Princess firebox dimensions:

17 1/2" deep X 21" wide x 12" high in bottom with firebrick
19 1/2" deep above firebrick
23" wide just above firebrick


King firebox dimensions:

18 1/2" deep X 23" wide at bottom X 15 1/2" high
20 1/2" deep X 25" wide just above firebrick
Firebox tapers in to 23 1/2" wide at top
16" deep x 5" wide x 8" high on either side of cat and bypass assembly, you could stuff another small piece on either side
Door opening is 18" x 10 1/4"

This is quite the thread. I must agree with Jags: BlazeKings (in my eyes) are not the prettiest stove out there. But they do get the job done. Why doesn't someone simply build a larger cast iron one? EPA ratings should be the same: the technology of the clean burn remains present in the build!

I suspect that if the Ashford 30 is remotely attractive, it will be a very big hit for Blaze King, and lead to more cast-iron stoves in their line-up.

Then again... we're assuming this Ashford 30 is going to be a nice looking stove. I really do wonder if Blaze King is capable of designing something attractive.

I dont think you can have your cat stove "runaway" like you guys with non cats. I guess if you leave the air wide open load it full and leave the bypass open it could, but when i slam the bypass and cut the air to fast you can pretty much choke her down.

I have a similar concern. Yesterday I showed my wife the Tuscany and she gave it a thumbs down. She found the scrollwork window grille too fussy and dated looking. To be a hit seller they will need to get some objective outside feedback before the design is cast in iron.

With the EQ you aren't just having to account for the oddity of a large firebox but also an enormous price tag. That stove is 5000$ plus WA sales tax and you don't even get enamel for that!

True dat. I would suspect if the EQ was more towards the $3500 level there would be quite a few more sold.

They have been making the big BK King and Buck 91 for decades so there must be a market. Maybe manufactures figure a smaller 3 cu ft stove that's more efficient like the new hybrids can do the heating job just about as well but without the 40 hour burn time?
