I've got a wiggly door latch on a fireplace insert. Looks like it has grandma bear doors. I think the person that was using it before me was forcing the latch over the top of the nickle protection plates, and it made the door latch loose. I put a gasket in there just to see what would happen, and it burned low overnight. The gasket is a fix, but it would be cool to get it back to original - am I looking at a new door or is there a way to just pull the handle/latch off? The whole stove is black, but it had those nickle protection plates so I'm hoping i might find nickle doors...

I have this exact model I was wondering what you think it's worth round about. I gave a really low price to someone before I did any research :-(.

Did you look an Craigslist to see what your area is asking? Stoves are a seasonal item and right now is the lowest. Prices are whatever buyer and seller agree upon. Next October / November is the time to sell.
If yours was just slid in using the existing chimney without a liner connected directly to Insert with a boot, you should inform the buyer, that type installation is no longer acceptable. He may want out of the deal if he doesn't have the correct size liner. Preferably insulated.

[Hearth.com] Insert sale question I've looked everywhere and can not find this model. It it grandpa bear lll and I just wanted to see I'd anyone can give a round about cause I don't wanna rob myself with the price since I'm buying another insert to pit in there when we take it out.

I nont know your market at all but around here $400 would be the top but more likely you would get $250 or $300

It has a like dryer pipe kinda going all the way up the chimney I assume??? I can only see a small area that makes it visible. What do I need to do to check the liner ? Might you have any pictures showing the difference? BTW this was the best website I could find and I've gotten more info from this site on the model and such than all others together and I looked up sites for a few hours lol. Thank you Coaly for your time and expertise to help me become more knowledgable on what I have.

You have to remove the upper face plate / cover to see the connection.
You're looking at a pipe that goes between firebox and outer shell that makes an air chamber around the back of insert.
Below you can see the double wall making the air space. You're looking into that slot at top, not at the top of Insert.

[Hearth.com] Insert sale question There is no collar that sticks up. The only way to connect directly to liner is with a boot or homemade adapter.

You're picturing a Fireplace Insert. No bear name given. A Grandpa III is a freestanding stove with 4 legs, 30 inches wide, arched doors with bottom and rear shields. The Insert uses Grandma doors.

Using the search feature at top right, search "Insert" in titles within this forum for threads pertaining to your insert.

Those are freestanding stoves that do not use a hearth enclosing faceplate.
They are not designed to sit back inside a fireplace like an Insert.

Also it looks like most of those stoves are listed in texas you are in va the prices swing greatly depending on the area. If you asked $800 for one in this area you would get laughed at you need to check craigslist and classified adds in your area to find an appropriate value. You can always list it for $800 and see if you get any response who knows.

Thank you all for your insight. I was talking to someone and came to 250.00 before I researched it so I really appreciate everyone's response. I would of given it away at that price. Thanks everyone so much

Like coaly said before it is worth what ever you can get for it a whole lot of them sell for $250 or less and i am sure there are some people that get $1000 plus for them but i think 4 to 5 hundred is about right for one in good shape
