I did have to push the owner....went in with all the information that I learned here.

This forum taught me....I built it and the installer is a great guy! He stuffed a ton of Roxul above the damper and 6" below.....sealed it with caulk......all of this is making the final install a bit harder. Additionally the forum convinced me to get an insulated blanket.....none of this would have happened without learning from here!

Take lots of pictures, brag about it to people and ignore their funny looks when you tell them all about the wood burning excitement in your life, the lessons you've learned, the glory, wood heat is good heat!

Nice. Installers must be working late to keep up with the demand. I think I can speak for all wood burns out there you might be excited now but by the end of march you will want to be done with it for the year. I'm always excited to get burning but I'm usually more excited to be finished

Couldn't help but notice the wood rack there. Be very careful loading small pieces on a large coal bed even a small coal bed as it results in the wood off gassing quick and a horrifying secondary show. Don't ask me how I know

It looks like your installers did a very thorough job, that's about how they all should be done. What type of insulation did they put down the sides? Did they put any insulation over the top of the unit? Enjoy.

This guy was great......I'm not sure the type of blanket over the flue but it was a kit with clamps every 3' and a wire mesh over the entire thing to prevent ripping. Yes there is a block off plate and about 12"of insulation. He also insulated down about 16" at the top. I gave him a $50 tip and his assistant $40. I'm very happy.....

Im thinking about doing the roxul on the sides like you did, did you put it behind the insert as well? I wonder if it will make a noticeable difference

Davidmsem, don't ever discount the advice of having dry wood, I know you hear it all the time here. You will never learn your stove unless you burn seasoned wood, unseasoned wood will leave you disappointed and doubting your stoves heating ability.

Yes, since I had a full bundle, we lined the entire back and around the sides to the face plate, and went all the way up to the block off plate. I learned these things here!
