Planning on installing a wood insert. Wife want to put a stone veneer (cultured stone) over the 30 yr old brick. Husband wants to get the stove in first then install the veneer. My question is regarding the hearthstone that I need to install. Can I install the insert first then come back later to install the veneer on the vertical and install the hearthstone on the horizontal surface in front of my insert? mostly i concerned about the hearth. Itchy to get an insert installed first.

Not picking sides, here, but I'd do the veneer first.

would you want to move it after it's been installed?

Agree, been there and have had it done each way, install the "stone" first. We have had two done (gas) where they were able to install the surround within the opening, so that there was no overlap of the surround onto the stone, looked great.
