Eastern PA
So I live in eastern PA and I’ve now been quoted the following to install a blaze king Princess 32. I know the piping can get pricy and I have a lofted 20 foot ceiling but these prices to me seem abnormally high .
#1 $18,000
#2 $12,900
#3 #12,300

I got this quote for a woodstove in my basement and the chimney had to go out an 8 inch concrete wall and up over my house so must have been well over 20 feet of pipe. Canadian $$$. I had another quote too.
If you are going in a lofted main room that is 20ft that is going to be expensive as I'm sure they would need to set up staging and where it exits is probably pretty high up on the roof. Mine they would just do with ladders outside.

That includes the cost of the stove right?

With that much interior black stove pipe be sure it's double wall.

$18000 definitely seems quite high, 12-13 seems just slightly high, this is assuming that these prices include the stove, and quality pipe is used. Everything got expensive as hell in the last 5 years.

Not anymore. Prices spiked recently

The wood stove is probably $4500, 20’ of double wall stove pipe ( 5 x 4’ sections at $110 = $550), roof pass through kit with ceiling box is about $1000, say 9’ of double wall SS (3x3’ sections at $200 = $600), misc brackets, mounts and screws - $1000.

So materials including stove are about $7,660 in material at retail price. The rest is labor, insurance, profit.

All that being said, the $18k quote is high, but the others are probably reasonable. You might be able to squeeze another $1-2k out, but it probably won’t be easy.

Since we don’t know how hard it will be to access the roof and actually do the job everything we say is all a guess. Is there a hill where the ladder needs to go? How steep is the roof? What is it made out of? Is a lift needed?

If the quotes seem like a lot, ask the company to give you more detail on what is involved.

Does the 30% fed rebate factor in here?

It's capped at $2,000 so if he pays taxes, then he can easily reduce tax liability by the maximum of 30% even at the lowest bid.

The tax credit is a credit that reduces an individual(s) tax liability. Our website has the certificate you need to keep with your records. Just have a CPA or tax preparer calculate the credit when you file your 2025 Federal Income taxes. https://www.blazeking.com/information/view-current-rebates/

My reference to "if he pays taxes" was because the credit won't help, for example, a retired person that lives on SS. Some states do not tax SS payments.

I am a tax paying citizen lol how exactly does the tax credit work? What are the steps to it? Thanks !

Be sure the bids don't already account for it like some stove vendors are including it on their price sheets as the cost of the stove.

That's nuts - I got quoted under 8K for brand new install and material (2nd floor) for a Sirocco 30. Hell, we just made a deal on a floor model Princess insert PI29 (never burned) cash and carry for 3500. Definitely shop around.

I don't see how any company could make money at 8k doing it properly at current prices.
