Hello,

I'm still plugging along with my wood stove install. I have my ceiling support box installed with DuraVent Class A running thru it. My question is: is there any type of insulation that I can put in the space between the chimney pipe and the support box that meets code?

Thank you.

Air meets code.

If you were trying to be helpful it didn't work. My attic is insulated from my main floor. It seems like I'm going to lose heat through my ceiling support box, since it creates a gap in the insulation. If I have to live with it I will, I was just wondering if there was some product out there that I could put in there. After all, Class A pipe has insulation between the inner and outer walls. . .

OK, so worded another way, code requires it to be air. Yes, a class A pipe has insulation but it is still required to have an air space. The air space IS insulation.

Should be an attic insulation shield in the attic, which you can then surround with insulation no higher than the shield.
Every installation guide I've seen requires this...to keep insulation away from the pipe.
You pretty much have to live with it if you want to stay within code. If you put something in there that claims to be an insulator and fire proof and you have a fire, it could give insurance co. a reason to not pay.
I'd rather lose a little heat around this shield than risk having a fire, lose my home, and possibly the life of my wife, dogs, and myself.

The chimney on my fire view is set up the same way. I have not had any issues with the cold from that space being air. I also have a vented flashing on the roof to help keep it cool.

No. No insulation. It will cause a fire almost instantly.
You must install it exactly as in the directions - nothing more and nothing less.
