Insulation?

Micore is similar in look & feel to a drop ceiling panel (but more rigid & stronger) and very light. It has a lot of tiny air pockets that give it good insulation value, and not very strong (it'll split in two if you put weight on it without full support under). Durock is very heavy, very rigid, very strong, very little air pockets so it has hardly any insulation value. It's just cement in board form. You'd need a hair over 2" of Durock to get the same R-Value as 1/2" of Micore 300. Durock is also known as cement board.

So, there's a big difference between the two like comparing a condensed drop ceiling panel to a sheet of cement.
