Question:

How can you tell when the catalytic is burning properly have a newer type stove made in australia and just relined my chimney with flexible stainless steel and don't know what is meant by cat -fire.

Answer:

The best way is a probe thermometer which is inserted into or just above the converter. Most cat stoves either come with or can accept such a thermometer.

Another method would be to use a magnetic thermometer on top of the steel or cast iron right above the combustor.

With either method you must use experience to determine when and if your combustor is working. Modern catalytic stoves should function well most of the time without any fussing from you, so don't get neurotic about checking the converter.
