Recently, we had a large chestnut tree "safety pruned" due to dead and broken limbs hanging over my garage and a pathway.
I asked the tree crew to leave the larger limbs which I cross cut to firewood length. There is not a lot, maybe 4 or 5 wheelbarrows full when split, but I plan to burn it when dry. Curious to know if chestnut is considered to be a "good" firewood, or not. Personally, I burn a lot of second-tier woods, so I'm not that fussy, and I will burn it even if not the best. But I do try to save the "good stuff" for the coldest part of the season.
I'm not certain which variety of chestnut it is, but I assume it is probably a Chinese chestnut (or possibly a hybrid), because I am told there are few American chestnut trees left of this size. Here is a photo of the base of the tree with a wisteria vine.
