Feeling the Heat

Hi,

I recently had a my first woodstove and double walled stove pipe installed. I have noticed a gap where the support box meets the ceiling. The reason I think this might be a problem is because every few days I get a little bit of attic insulation (blown in cellulose) that falls through the gap and onto the top of the stove.

Here are some photos of the gap at the support box and ceiling. The small white part in the gap is drywall.

When looking from the front, there is no gap and the support box seems to have a tight seal to the ceiling. However, it is at the rear, closest to the back wall, where there is this gap.

So here are my questions:

1) Is this normal?

2) If it is not normal, what needs to be done to fix it?

3) Is a special calking ever used to seal this?

4) Should I call the installer back to come and look at it?

Thanks.

Assuming all the clearances are met, just use some black silicone to fill the gap. It doesn't need to be any kind of special high temp in that location.
Can you get above it to make sure you have an insulation shield?

Yes, I did go up in the attic and there is an insulation shield installed. Should the black silicone be filled on the back side from the attic or the front where the photos show?

I would do it from below, so I could slick it up real nice. Put a nice bead around it and then use a wet finger to slick it off. It won't even be noticeable!

Ok, thanks, I was getting worried that something was done wrong! This will be an easy fix.

Good job as usual Webby...
