I assume those wildfires that burn for months were "registered" also...?

It's true. In Vancouver I had a condo, and it did not have any AC, Just baseboard electric heaters. It was in an 8 unit building.
Everyone had a wood burning fireplace. Probably there are large numbers of houses and condo's in that area that burn pure open flame wood. We are not talking wood stove or wood fireplace, just a firebox and screen.

Open fire burning, whether outdoor yard waste or indoor open fireplace, is a magnitude dirtier than modern wood stoves.

I think that is what they are trying to do. Getting people to upgrade or stop burning. Now some people just burn those firelogs once and awhile, but those are terrible. I can say the chimneys were good. Big double wall. We didn't use ours much as we had no wood. I did buy fire logs, but they were hit and miss. They would start out nice, then at the end it sucked.

Just wait until they figure out that you produce methane. I’ll let your imagination figure out how they’re going to read that!

Don’t worry. They also think hiking causes wildfires. Nova scotia doesn’t let you go into the woods anymore.

Reading the bylaw seems reasonable to me, not saying I agree with more government oversight. Not sure where the $500 fine comes from listed in article. Could get expensive for noncompliance.

A person who contravenes sections 10, 11, 12, 27 and 28 of this Emission Regulation commits an offence punishable by a fine not exceeding $5,000.

There's probably a long list of people who are ready to report neighbors they don't like that smoke them out. I have no idea why they put 8 chimneys on that building I lived in. Just asking for trouble. 4 units had roof top patio's too.

It starts with registering, then they have an address to send the request for payment for your wood burning privilege license.
They will be making sure it costs as much to heat with wood, as it does with other fuels. Such privilege will probably cost more.
The money must keep moving for the money to be taxed...
I believe our insurance went up $900 when we added the second wood burner... I stopped paying attention.

Yes for sure. They have no record now. We did have them inspected and cleaned for insurance reasons. And to get an
OK they will probably have to be inspected and approved. Maybe even install something airtight.
Yes, they print more money, then tax that at a later time. Then tax the same thing multiple times.
Here is what my insurance company said when I got my pellet stove which is/was only Aux heating.

Once complete simply give us a call at 1-800-552-5333 to provide the WETT certificate associated with the pellet stove. You can expect a 10% surcharge to then take effect on your policy for auxiliary heating once updated.

MAX BURN CORD: To qualify with CAA Insurance you will need to burn 2 or less cord of wood per year.

They wait till you burn your house down, then they ask you to prove how much you burned?
When I read that, I guess what they mean is you had better not be heating your house with wood.
That is the only way they will give you insurance. I'm telling you the underwriter engineers are on the job.
I ignored it because I have a pellet stove and it cannot heat my house alone. I have 2 heat pumps and 7 or 8
electric convects. Plus, am I supposed to convert pellet btu/lb to cords?

I want to keep things simple, burn some wood and enjoy...
Why can it not be that easy...
Brother in law was our insurance broker, he said the correct answer is under 1 cord. But that was before stove #2.
I'd say that a 4'x4'x8' stack of pellet bags is a cord?

I have done the calculation, but that was awhile ago. When they say cord of wood that is a measured value by LWH in inches, not BTU.
So I'm off the hook. If the "person" writing the policy and mentioned bags of pellets, then it would mean something to me.
Anyway, in my case there will be no issue, as I have a pellet stove that runs perfectly. I have not cleaned my stove pipe yet, but
I am not expecting much with 4 inch double wall with about 10 feet of rise. I plan to grab some pictures with my scope before I clean for the first time.
