Did a test burn today and it seems starved for air. Couldn’t go less than 1/2 air or it would snuff out the flames and go black box smoke dragon mode. Maybe just lack of draft but it’s quite breezy today and 59.

Don’t know why my photos are all posted sideways?

This is what I have left at 8 hours from 4 splits of Oak. I’m still trying to figure out the sweet spot for this stove. It’s very temperamental when it comes to adjusting the air. Can’t go much below half air or it snuffs out the fire. I have to get her good and hot over 600 internal pipe temp on full air before adjusting down to keep a clean burn.

Just enough coals for a relight.

After burning this stove for awhile I’ve noticed it really seems starved for air. To get the fire going you need to keep the door ajar for a good 15 min then close and burn on high for another 15 minutes to get it up to temp before turning it down for a longer burn. The sweet spot was just a tad below 1/2 air. Anything below that would snuff the fire out so it was difficult to find that sweet spot. Not much air slide movement to work with. Looking at the last EPA test report verifies the low burn rate was at about 1/2 air which seems odd to me.

Today I popped the top off, removed the air slide control and ground it down to allow more air. Starting a fire is now quicker and can be done with the door shut. The sweet spot has moved from 1/2 air to just a tad above fully shut. Much more control than before.
