I have been offered a Jotul F500 V1 for nothing in good condition. I have a fireplace i was intending to put an insert in until this stove came available. The F500 will not fit in the fireplace without busting out bricks at the top. It is 28.5 inches tall and opening is 23. However there likely would be room if I did so. There is 34 inches to the bottom of the cast iron damper plate in front. Is this a recommended or normal practice and is it worth my time to do so? Will it structurally compromise the fireplace? I fear my insert options may be quite limited with it being that low as well?

It would be good to speak to a professional mason and discuss options for support if bricks are removed. This may require installing a new lintel if there isn't one already above the arch.
