Jotul knobs

Quick question,

We've got a white enamel Oslo and the wife was inquiring about whether or not we could sand/re-stain the wooden knobs a lighter color. The current stain is a very dark, nearly black wood stain. If it is possible, are there any particular needs besides sanding and re-staining with a basic wood stain?

That's what I was thinking. Just wanted to ensure do to it being under heat that there wasn't a particular stain/process.

It will be close to the heat but not in contact with a direct hit surface. Just research the stain tou select and check the temp ranges. You should be fine.

I didn't think they were wood, but looking at them closely now it's wood. So yea why not stain them. I was thinking you could a get a nice metal single screw knob, but maybe no good, it's going to get hot. For me it would work as I never touch it without a stove glove on.

My wife constantly used to loosen up the Oslo side door knob, so I put on slippery ceramic one. Now it never loosens, looks great and dresses it up! Metal knobs come in the same size.. Put the same type on the front door. We always use a glove on a hot stove.

A local hardware store had a great selection.

If you know a wood turner it would be quicker to turn new knobs of a wood color that you like, think cherry, than to sand and refinish the original ones.

My wife constantly used to loosen up the Oslo side door knob, so I put on slippery ceramic one. Now it never loosens, looks great and dresses it up! Metal knobs come in the same size.. Put the same type on the front door. We always use a glove on a hot stove.

Funny after years of my wife loosening the side door knob. She said it wasn't her doing it. But after explaining it doesn't turn and to push the whole arm, it hasn't been loose this season.

Your right the black knobs need go for something classier.

I solved the problem of the Jotul's F500 nob loosening up on my girlfriends stove by buying a PH.

10 or 12 years ago my girlfriend at the time and I decided to build a Timberframe home. We lived in Sandy Hook and we looked at the next town over. Lo and behold we found some land that a "farmer" was selling. I bought the tools, began learning how to build such a thing, bought the lumber from a mill and got to it. 2 1/2 months every day I cut the frame. I did all of the radiant heat, electrical, plumbing and most everything else. Energy Star home. Installed the Mansfield. (I guess I'm a Hearthstone fanboy) "House Finished, Life Over" old Chinese proverb. About 5 years ago, I drove up the hill home and saw the white Hummer parked in the "farmers" driveway, with in half a second I knew what my fate would be. I knew at that moment, I would no longer be living in my house that I built. And I was right. The Hummer was owned by someone in organized crime, he bought the land next to mine, sold and shot high powered semi automatic weapons (residential neighborhood), explosions at 6 am, you name it. Police paid off. One day furnace technician came to clean my Buderus Boiler just by fate knew the guy and his "family" well. He said, "If I were you, I would move." So, I did.

My wife was grabbing only the knob and turning it like a door knob, as she moved the arm. Know matter how tight I made it, she had it loose in a few weeks.
