just got a $3500 quote for Blaze King King model

Blake King dealer near Pgh. just quoted me $3500 for a King. The Princess was $2499 but you have to buy the stove door ala-carte for an additional $400.

I was a bit sticker shocked. May have to try lesser models. I really want to go catalytic this year because I love the efficiency they give at low burn rates. Having something that can just idle at low burn all day or night is very useful to me.

Never shopped BK myself, but your pricing looks similar to others I've seen quoted here. Mighty spendy for a steel stove, but their performance is un-matched. If you're not set on having BK's thermostatic control, there are many less expensive catalytic stoves. Check Buck, Appalachian, Kuma-Sequoia, etc.

That price seems good to me. It is a different category of stove with the thermostatic damper, so comparing to other 'cat' stoves isn't the most effective way to look at it. The wood burning experience is completely different with a blaze king and the price is reflective of it. Sticker shock yes, but I think the more you talk to BK owners the more you understand why the value of the stove is so much higher than the price tag. The stove really does get every last iota of energy out of a log and into your home in the form of heat.

i always feel bad for these guys on all of the Alaska shows like Ice Lake Rebels and a few others. They have backup propane so that when the old obsolete stove burns out during the day the propane will kick in. If they could afford the blazeking stoves they wouldn't ever have to worry about that stuff.

Not to mention the fact that when I lit mine off this morning, I loaded it up with mediocre Siberian elm. Outside temp is a breezy 59, sun is shining bright, and the inside temp is 72. I don't really need to be burning right now, but all I will have to do tonight is turn it up a little, and it will burn out by tomorrow afternoon when we're back in the 70s.

The king won't just idle all day OR night, it will idle all day, all night, all of the next day, AND a good chunk of the next night. 40+ hour burns. Of course, if you need more heat then you have the flexibility to crank her up and exchange some of that burn time for higher output.

Best price I found for a new King was $3895 Cdn. with a plain black door and that was with a security deposit prior to the dealer ordering one for me and cash & carry on p/u.
I've been looking for 6 months and could not find a used King anywhere. Lots of used smaller models though.

Another dealer to the North of Pgh just quoted me $3K for Elvis, but BK offers a Sirocco 30 that he quoted be a sub $2K price for it. I am now leaning towards Sirocco 30. It has a 2.75cuft box and supposedly does 30hr on idle.

It is still hard for me to believe a sub 3cuft can go 30 hrs.

Hopefully someone will chime in with some knowledge about the Sirocco.

ah.. yes, i clearly forgot to ask the important questions that create surprises later. I don't like BK's ala-carte approach. "You have to buy the door separate.." "huh? you kidding. "No, the door is purchased separately since there are several versions of the door."

So - no I did not ask if blowers are included. It might do me some good to have someone post the 5 or 10 questions that anyone MUST ask when bargaining for a quote on a BK King or Princess.

To be honest with BK's you can ask whatever you want. You will either buy it because you understand how much you get with it. Or you'll he and haw about the door or blower cost and justify to yourself a cheaper stove and then wish you would have gotten the BK for the next 10 years.

There should be no problem walking into the dealer and saying I want this stove with this door and these accessories. What is my cost.

Every time I hear someone confirm 40+ hour burn times It makes me wanna say heck with budget and just get this stove. Since Im usinf it in a large bedroom I don;t need high power, I need something that will idle with little or no attention to it for a day or two at a time.

Make sure you have a CO detector in the bedroom.

New class A chimney inside and out, OAK & labor, install and applicable taxes, permits, etc. Based upon last winters propane bill, I figured I'd break even after 2 or perhaps 3 winters. Install date was 13 March. Burned 24/7 for the next 6 weeks. Total seasoned wood consumed was four wheel barrel loads or, 1/2 a facecord. With this burner, I can afford to buy my wood if I needed too. Have 30 face cord now c/s/s; about 1/2 of which is at or below 20% with my MM. That woodpile just paid for the BK plus some.

If you can get a SC30 for under 2k, that's a great deal. Mine was North of 3k with all the bells and whistles.

I posted up a thread last year when I got my Sirocco 30, IIRC, I was able to get 24 hrs out of about 3/4 full box keeping a stove top of 350 - 400 degrees. I've since added 4 ft onto my chimney, so I am anxious to see how it performs when the temps drop

Worth it thou. Be it long burn times or the incredible amount of heat over a shorter period.

3.5K was my base price also. I just tricked it out with every option excluding the gold trim. The Class A chimney double walled pipe, installation labor, taxes & permits consumed the balance. I think the chimney alone with roof bracing was about $1500.

Your temps can't be all that cold to have a 1/2 face cord last 6 weeks.
I avg. a 1/2 face cord of wood a week over the season . I usually go through 3-4 cord for the entire season.

My home is only 1500 Sq feet and we'll insulated new construction. The King Ultra is probably too big for us but, I needed the guaranteed burn with the option of more heat if I needed it and, the possibility of us adding on another room. I expect to use about 2 full cord (*6 face cord) for a typical winter. We'll see... winter will soon be here

Well you have pocked a great stove imo for what you're trying to do.
I burnt a BK non cat for over 10 years and then bought the cat model new in 2010. used to burn 15 fc or more now 10-12 fc and the house is warmer without all the valleys and peaks in temps that the non-cat stove gave us.
Our house was new in 1987 and is 2 story 2500sq.ft.
