Know a fella at work who every year runs out of wood. Well, you guessed it, he's already out. I asked him what happened and he just said "He's lazy that's all" As fate would have it, bumped into him at the grocery store yesterday and what did he have in his cart? 2 of those "bundles of warmth" wood piles. About 6 splits per bundle at $5.99 per bundle. Needless to say he seemed embarrassed and didn't want to talk. At that price a face cord would run about $300! NOW THIS IS THE SAME GUY WHO EVERY YEAR RAGS ON US FOR GETTING WOOD IN MAY AND JUNE FOR THE NEXT SEASON. Why is it every year he runs out of wood? Answer is simple: He is Just plain STUPID!

Yikes, I was at the grocery store the other day and saw those, the one's that I saw were not only 5 or 6 pieces per bundle, they were only about 14" long too.

Oh and you're about to get ragged on in here for waiting until May or June!! :p

For sure! May and June is not a good time to get wood for next winter!!!! That wood should already be in the stack now!

I hope you mean wood is in by May/June & will season about 1-1/2 years ;)

Of course, running out & having none is really bad :)

Like Confucius once said "Only the supremely wise and the aysmally ignorant do not change.";)

I would like to sell 5-6 pieces for $5.99 all day long! The Home Depot, the grocery store, 7-11, the gas station all have cords of these boxes in the store. They wouldn't stock it if they couldn't sell it. Years ago, I hung around with some guys that had property in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It was novel at the time and I wasn't very interested. We would go chop down a doug fir tree, cut it into rounds, split it, load up a truckload and have it sold in no time at all waiting in the supermarket parking lot. It was free beer for me, for helping

Drive by a house every morning while taking my girl to school. Guy has bundles and bundles for sale and seems to blows through them pretty quickly. He's getting 7 bucks for 10 very small splits of unseasoned wood...maybe partially seasoned if you by in the fall.

With bans on moving firewood across state lines, the folks living around state and federal campgrounds do pretty well. I took my kid camping up in NH and paid 20 bucks for two bundles. About 15 small splits in each. Hardly enough to get through an evening with an open fire. At least a bundle in a stove will give you a few hours.

Maybe you should set up shop in your front yard, bundle 10-12 splits for $5.99, thats a deal he wont be able to turn down, twice the wood for the same price.

You've been talking to my wife haven't you! I live off the beaten path. This guy lives on the Waltham/Lexington line on a busy street. I doubt my road gets 15 non residents driving through a day. Not terribly interested in selling wood regardless. Just paying more attention to the fraud that is firewood sales since joining this site.

You wait until May and you call this guy stupid? ;)

I have collected 2 cords since the New Year. If I do not have my 6 cord seasoning racks filled by June I will be lazy and stupid. One cord a month is all I need.

I'd quit heating with wood altogether if I could do that! Heck, I'd be putting geothermal AND solar in my entire house, at those prices I'd make enough money off of my 25+ cord to pay cash for both systems!!;)
