KEJ 1101 missing parts...I think

New BK KEJ-1101 owner with a 10/83 build date. Seems to be missing a couple parts. I believe the side tins need to be moved back toward the flue and maybe im missing a third one that goes between the bypass door and the oval cat. I would like to make the missing third tin but have no idea what it looks like. If anyone has a picture, that would help out a bunch.

I plan on making a new cat flame deflector? The old ones use a single hole. I was thinking about building a perforated one like in the new units. Any thoughts on why it would be a bad idea?

I have a new cat from firecat but it seems short about 3/8". Could i use an extra layer of gasket or should I install/weld in a 3/16" steel spacer at the ends?

I am hopeful that someone is still holding on to old parts for people like me. I can make whatever is missing. I just need to know what it looks like.

The more I look at it, I don't believe it had a cat flame shield. I see no evidence of one being welded in place like some of the others I've seen.

The manual mentions removing the flameshield in the instructions for cat replacement. It sounds like the flameshield is held in place by the secondary tube.
Did the new combustor come with a new gasket? It forms the seal between the combustor and the combustor seat. The gasket and flameshield may make up the 3/8" gap.

The flame shield sat above main air tube. The three baffle plates were intended to direct smoke towards the flue collar.
There are ZERO parts available for the 1101.

In fact, only the manual still exits with all others drawings (yup...no PC's back then) long gone.

I made a 3/8" thick flame shield out of some scrapmetal and left an area in the center of th port to support it. The tubes alone left it sitting a bit low. The tin to the rear, between the cat chamber and bypass door I made of 1/8" steal. I cant seem to get photos up today for some reason. Ill try again later. Thanks for your help!

Also mine seems to have a bypass door safety that holds the firebox door open. If the bypass is open, it doesn’t seem right. The bypass door shaft has a rod that goes forward towards the door. I’ll try to get a picture. My bypass door will not stay open with the firebox door closed.

This is post first burn. Seems to have survived. Only took it to 1000°F

Early catalytic wood stoves had a method to "start" closing the bypass. So when the door is closed, that button it the upper right hand corner pushed inward, starting the closing of the bypass. Often 1101 owners remove the linkage rod to bypass the action of the button closing the bypass.

The flame shield in front (below) the cat was a stainless wire mesh. It's role was to diffuse the flame from hitting the face of the combustor. If there is sufficient room between the dome (bottom of the cat) and the two brackets one to the left and the other to the right, you may be able to slide a flame shield into the gap. If not sufficient space, just tack weld it.
