We just bought a house with a kodiak wood burn insert. I've used a stand alone stove with vent nobs in front and a flue to adjust airflow. This stove is very different to me.
This kodiak doesn't have a flue but it does have a fan box.
When starting a fire, it will stay lit while to door is open but when the door gets shut the fire goes out.
We cannot find instructions or a model number and we are stumped!
How do we properly use this stove? Thank you!!!!

This type of installation is known as a slammer. It is no longer legal. The stove should have a stainless liner connected to it. Operation is simple, give the fire air when starting by opening up the door ports and close them down part way once the fire is burning well.
The symptom you are describing may be a completely different issue, poorly seasoned wood. If the wood is damp inside it will be hard to burn regardless of the stove.
