Newport Wa. 19f this AM, but going to about Zero this week. Most of January was very warm and rained instead of snow. We got cold weather in Oct and Snow then. No big snows so far this winter except Oct. Doing about 2 bags a day because I am burning 24 hours with no breaks. Typicaly switch to Furnace (Heat Pump). Should be about 38f for high normally. January was above long term averages, in northern NH almost every day of the month. February has definitely reverted to the norm so far. What we have missed in recent years are mutiday stretches of very low temps in the minus 10F to minus 30 F range. I used to plan on two to three each winter. I think the local autoparts stores miss those days as they used to sell every car and truck battery they could get their hands on

16 degrees F this morning, rest of the week single digits daytime. Using about 35-40 lbs a day. January was warmer than normal. February looks colder....

Northern Indiana by Ft Wayne. Highs in the 18-22*f range. Lows in single digits. Sunday is calling for a high of 8*f and a low of -4*f. 2200sqft ranch. I have 2 stoves. USSC 6500 and a PP130. 6500 uses just under a bag a day. PP130 uses about a bag a day.

Lets see, 2 story farmhouse with good insulation 100 pounds every 24 hours (corn 75%, pellets 25%) Stove in a custom firing program running in HR7 RF9, DF auto, 70 inside (entire house), 45%RH via a humidifier. Temps averaging mid teens daytime, -0 at night (Fahrenheit). Corn is free, pellets were cheap ($210 a ton). 7+ tons of corn and 5+ ton of pellets in the barn. Good hedge on inflating fuel prices.

ok here in Dartmouth Nova Scotia day time temp is -7 C GOING DOWN TO -15 tonight. great winter so far on the east coast . December/January temps were above normal . Feburary is about normal in this neck of the wood,hoping for a early spring.

started my Apprenticeship I had to learn Metric Dan quick.
That was before Canada went metric

I actually have 2 roll around tool boxes, one is all SAE and the other is metric. What irritates me is working on a buggy and finding the fastener is metric when all I have close by is SAE and vice versa. My farm tractors are all metric, cars and trucks are mixed. At least all the dials and DRO's on the machine tools are both and the DRO's do instant conversion as well.

Kind of wish America had embraced the metric system instead of fighting it. That way life would be simpler now.

I came to work at a ski hill after a car accident and oil pooped the bed in 2015, imperial to metric as ski lifts are produced in Europe. Having 2 sets is cumbersome but knowing the crossovers helps a bit

I deal with large Kubota tractors... all metric and New Holland and John Deere implements...mixed. My truck is SAE (engine) but the transmission is metric. I usually carry a socket rack of each so I don't have to constantly be going to the toolboxes.

When I did my tool and Die apprenticeship, everything was SAE.

Not a mild winter here temperature wise but not much snow, just cold.. Actually, I'd welcome a good heavy blast of snow. Snow on the roof helps insulate the house. keeps the fuel usage down.

Never broke 20 yesterday and right now a 'balmy' 26. Time for the 'thong'....lol Nightime lows are around -4 to - 10 (F).... and it's supposed to get 'much colder' this weekend. Frankly, it's cold enough for me right now. Thank goodness for the biomass stove and my never ending supply of no germ uncoated seed corn because I'm sucking it down at a high rate of consumption and cleaning the stove at a high frequency as well. Corn produces a huge amount of solid, fluffy ash and fly ash too.

15 minutes every 4 days and dump the ash pan in the driveway.`

Getting time for a new paintbrush. The bristles on the old one are pretty short and it's not cleaning the glass too well anymore. Need to trundle out to the shop for a replacement. Got a ton of shop work, just lack the motivation to do it. I'll probably get motivated when my customers start sending me nasty grams. February is a typical 'do nothing' month for me anyway. Shop is always toasty. It has PEX in floor heat.

Cannot wait to 'replenish' my corn/pellet supply on Saturday. Hopefully the tractor starts ok. No juice in that barn so ambient is what it is. They both have new starting batteries but it takes serious cranking amps to spin a stone cold diesel over with thick oil in the crankcase. being compression start they need to get some heat in the combustion chamber to pop so they need to roll over at least twice which is probably all I'll get anyway. I never use either. Too hard on the piston rings and either tends to wash the lube oil off the cylinder walls and score the liners too. If they start then comes the banging and clanging until they get warmed up. I never move them until the temp gauge needle has moved off it's cold resting spot and the heater is blowing some warm air.

Think I'll move one into the tractor shop, it's warm in there but will be tight. I have our RV inside there. I keep the RV inside in the winter, that way I don't have to 'winterize' the water system which is always a PITA anyway. I keep it shore powered so it has 110 all the time.. Hard to get out and heavy too.

One nice advantage of keeping the RV inside is, when I need a cup of coffee or want to make a sandwich, I go in the Rv and make a pot of coffee and a sandwich from the fridge. Fridge is always stocked with stuff and beverages too. One never knows when the need arises and they last about forever too. This one is 12 years old and looks brand new inside and out. Last one I had (and sold) was 20 years old and looked almost new. Guy I sold it to was amazed. Only time it goes out is when we go camping or visiting out of state and don't want to motel it. I especially paranoid about sleeping in a motel bed. Had a bad experience on a hunting trip in a motel with bed bugs.

Mostly a mild winter here in GB compared to normal, temp and snow wise.
This past week we got into the polar vortex and temps have consistently been below 0°f at night with highs in the teens at best during the day time.
Last night was -14°f (-25°c), wind chills at night have been consistently in the -30°f.
Installed a new NG furnace and AC system last fall, ran that until the deep cold hit and fired up the old 6039hf. Using about 2-3 five gallon buckets of corn everyday and nice and toasty in the two story cape cod on the ground floor.
No one left at home to live upstairs so I have that partially closed off and my wife passed away unexpectedly Dec 3 this past year so I don't need to keep it as warm downstairs as I used to keep it.
Wish she was around, I'd gladly keep it warmer for her.
