Hello everyone,
This is my first post, so go easy on me. I just completed a home renovation and kept an original fireplace from the late-1800s-early 1900s that I'd like to fire up. I don't know much about it except that it says the "Buckeye" on the cast iron. I would appreciate any information anyone has. (See the photos below. )
It appears to be in great shape, as does the original masonry chimney which we kept. I have just a couple questions.
1. It looks like there's a handle piece missing. (I think its some sort of double damper system). Is there anywhere online that sources these types of obscure antique parts?
2. I'm in need of an ashpan -- approx 19" in front and 13" in back; but only 9" deep. Any recommendations for where to source one of these? Everything I'm looking at is too large which leads me to believe that maybe this was meant to handle wood (and maybe coal??).
3. Has anyone seen or operated one of these before? I'm very curious about this history.
