I saw a mention of using a leaf blower to clean a pellet stove on this forum. A search didn't reveal anything.
Was I hallucinating or did I see something real?

This time, you weren't hallucinating (G). Look up leaf blower trick, both here and on YouTube. You must use the suction function, and have the stove door open while doing this. It works, and is a great method to use AFTER normal cleaning of the stove.

Checked it out on Youtube, Heat Seeker, and it looks cool. Any suggestions as to make/model of a cheap leaf blower that would do the trick? The blower would be used for pellet stove cleaning only.

Nope, no suggestions. Just make sure you can access the suction side of it. I think mine is a TORO, came with a bag and tube to pick up leaves. (It's pretty useless as a leaf vac.) The tube fits perfectly over my direct vent pipe, making for an easy job. It takes about a minute for the ash to clear out, so I just hold it in place without taping it. Besides, it's fun!

I use the leaf blower trick instead of disassembling the stove to clean it. I do the leaf blower trick after every ton of pellets burned. I use a cheap electric leaf blower. Like Heat Seeker, I just hold it on the top of the vent, with the cap removed. my vent cap has a metal disk on it that is a little bigger than the suction on my leaf blower, with the blower suction grill removed.

My shop has a direct vented pellet stove in it, I made an adaptor out of heavy cardboard to adapt the leaf blower suction to the vent. I just press the blower suction to the cardboard and vent to hold the cardboard adaptor in place.

A little less work if you get one that fits right on like this home depot homelite model... very cheap.
