hello,

I have a country comfort insert stove that's at least fifteen years old. Had it going about a month ago and everything was fine.
Upon start up yesterday, heavy smoke leaked from everywhere. The damper was open and I felt a draft coming through so I don't believe there is an obstruction. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you just need some more heat in the chimney. Use some newspaper to get some quick heat in the flue.

Does the insert have a liner attached to it?
Can you see the cap? The screen is prone to plugging up, make sure it’s clogged up.

If it doesn’t have a liner on it, there may be more to it.
Careful not to cause a flue fire with the paper. Inserts without a liner will build up creosote in a very short time.
