Hi everyone!

I am currently building a new construction home and lost in communication was the size of the dining room fireplace. We would like to install a 60” direct vent linear fireplace. However, our “bump out” on the foundation plan was messed up and is only 55”. Any solutions on how to fix this problem so we can have a 60”? Possibly add to the foundation? Sit a steel box on top of the bump out that is long enough to support the 60”? I’m open to all ideas at this point as we start framing next week. Has anyone ran into this problem?

A simple fix is to cantilever your framing over the foundation bump out.
It's done ALL the time. No building codes will be violated. According to
building guidelines, you can cantilever 1/3 of a board length & you will be
nowhere near that. You may have to shift the windows away from the
fireplace opening to maintain aesthetics, but that shouldn't be a problem.
Talk to your architect ASAP so the changes get into the plans...
