So I’m working on making my liner system for insert more insulated with insulating the bottom 18 inches of the liner that the original installer left on insulated. Putting in an insulated block off plate as well. As I look up from the fire box area at the existing insulation wrap, I’m noticing that the steel mesh appears to be a golden color. At least to my eye, the insulation wrap around it looks to be intact and fine. Could this mesh have gotten hot enough to turn this color and how? For reference, the mesh starts perhaps 2 feet up the liner.
