So first of all, as you can see from pictures, my fireplace opening has been butchered somewhat. What they had was a fresh air vent going into the attic of my garage. My plans for this are to stuff it with Roxul? Any issues doing that?
The next question is the dampener, this picture is bad i will try to get more. I'm not familiar with how they are supposed to look, but it appears its all metal, coming down from the smoke shelf. Is that normal? I presume i can hopefully cut/grind that out? I'm also guessing for reading that if its smoke shelf its not integral to anything and i can chop bricks out of there after i get rid of the metal?
If that is needed what is the best way? Hammer and chisel for bricks and a grinder for the metal? I also have a Bosch SDS drill that does hammer only i could get a bit for that if it would help.
As always thanks a lot for all the help and advice its really appreciated.
