Bought a 32 ton Dewalt splitter and noticed it does not have a breather cap. Instead it has a solid bolt. Seems that with fluid expansion due to heat this is a bad design. Should I find a breather cap?

Update: Looked at a couple of TSC CountyLine splitters and they do not use a breather cap either.

I was curious. It appears there are totally closed systems that are sealed. Then there are systems that use a reservoir. They have filters to allow only dry air in and out as the volume of oil goes up and down.

I always replace those "vented" plugs with proper caps with a filter in them on my own stuff

This is the size of the plug per the manual and it seems like an odd size

(LSP25-13000) OIL BOLT (Ø32mm- 1- ?4" DIA.)

That plug is very likely a std 3/4" NPT thread (about 1" , hair over, when measuring the outside of the treads)
or if its a 1" NPT then it'll be more like 1-1/4" outside

A 1 inch galv pipe screwed into the filler no problem. It is a 1 inch npt!!
