By vintage, do you mean one of the pre-EPA models like the Vigilant or Defiant? The best source for them would be from a restorer. At the age of 50+ yrs, most are in serious need of a rebuild and some parts are rare.

By vintage I mean pre ownership change when they were still rock solid. Rebuilding and restoring one is not a problem. I'm just shocked at the scarcity in the market. Is FB marketplace or EBay my best bet?

Sure, try craigslist too. It may take driving quite a distance to get a good one.

Moving the thread to the Classics/Vermont Castings forum. Maybe someone there has an oldie in good condition for sale.

They are getting pretty scarce in usable condition. And yes you are looking for pre epa ones. Very few have been what I would call rock solid since then

If I was looking for a vintage VC stove I'd be looking in the NE and not the SE. Not very prevalent in the SE when those stoves were sold. The SE used mostly steel welded stoves or Buck and Bat Cave stoves back then, rare to find a stove shop then.

Contact @D. Hermit and get one that has been properly restored.

I'm looking for a larger vintage model Vermont Castings wood stove for our new house. Is there anywhere I should look first in the southeast?
Hi, We are redoing our family room and will be removing our Vermont Castings Resolute 1979 wood burning stove. Dark red/burgandy enamel (very few imperfections), glass door kit, dual-fuel wood/coal capability. The complete data plate/tag is intact and legible. The removal will be done by an expert in the field. The pictured piping is also available for purchase. Please let me know if you are interested. Similar stoves made today are upwards of $4,500.
