lopi cape cod insert questions

Hello everyone. I want say i love this site a lot of things i learned from here. I have lopi cape cod insert for a second season now. I like it a lot, but have few questions. First where to take a temp measurment and what temp should be optimal for me? I asked my dealer and Lopi and they couldn't give me an answer. Second how long of burns do you guys get out of that insert? The best i got was 5hours, i know its because my craptastic wood. I installed it with a help of my friends with a full liner, outside wall chimney about 15'. I have a raised ranch roughly 1200 sf of space being heated. Stove is in a living room, dining room, kitchen combo with a cathedral ceiling. I have no problem getting that space well above 70degrees usually about 74 even during the last few cold days. I get secondaries burns no problem.

Sorry not sure where to put the thermo I just use the cat them on mine but why do you say your wood is crappy?

It's a maple which I split this Sumer so it's not well seasoned. It burns quite nice but it does sizzle a little bit. I can see that cape cod is not a popular stove around here.

Its a newer stove and I don't think many have the insert, you're the first I know of.

If I was to use IR thermometer would a reading of the glass be good enough? Or should I just not worry about it at all?

With its flush face, this is a tough one to get a decent reading off of. I would take it off the top of the door frame for a more accurate reading.

Weatherguy, I think you're confusing the Cape Cod insert and the Cape Cod freestanding. They are actually two completely different stoves. The insert predates the new hybrid, and does not have a cat -- only secondary tubes. They do make the new hybrid in an insert, but it is called the Hybrid Fyre.

I'm surprised calling Travis/Lopi yielded no results on where to measure. I just looked at the manual and they don't specify in there either.

Trguitar you are totally right I don't have a cat the new hybrid fyer has it. So it all makes me believe it's not such a big deal to get the temp read?

Temp is a big deal, for a permanent solution look at the digital temperature with a mountable thermocouple will be your best bet, take a look at Auberins.com.

You're right, I was, I actually thought he had the Hybrid. So confusing

I think they are the exact same stove. I believe FireplaceXtrordinair and Lopi are both owned by Travis.
