I have a 1200sqft house that is old and leaky.
I'm leaning towards the Lopi Declaration insert. I also like the Jotul 550 Rockland. The Jotul is bigger and would look nicer in my big fireplace (the Lopi would look strangely small). However, the Lopi seems to get better reviews on this site.
Another thing that surprised me is the Lopi manual says you should have the flue inspected every two months during heating season, for creosote build up. The Jotul manual says every two WEEKS! The fireplace is located in the middle of the house, so the chimney is inside the house, goes up through the attic, and comes out almost at the highest part of the roof. So that should reduce creosote build up, right? What about insulation?
I'm concerned because I'd like to be able to use it for overnight burns, but the manuals both say that low fires cause more creosote build up. For those of you with either stove, what has been your practical experience with overnight burns?
