Cate here is a picture on removing a washer so your seal around the door will be tighter, you can remove both if you have to.

Well, i figured it out!

This year my Fireplace Xtrordinair 33 seemed to be burning pretty fast. I originally thought it was because my wood was super dry. It burning very fast, even with the air way down. I finally figured that it must be the gasket was just worn out (after 4 years of use). I am burning 24/7 and since the stove is always hot, haven’t done the dollar bill test.

Last night I reloaded and noticed the door was barely closing.

I noticed the latch that closes the door is held in place by a nut, and it was loose. So i just tightened it up (by hand) and now it is very tight. If I close the air it really shuts the fireplace down. I have to get used to where to leave the air control all over again.

But for those with similar fireplaces, Fireplace Xtrordinair 33 and 44 and the lopi declaration (probably a few others), this might save you some time!

I wish I had seen your post, Rick. It would have saved me a lot of worry! But now thanks to you and Zap, I'm sure I'll fix the issue with no problems!

Bad news, Zap. I took the door handle apart, tightened the nut, removed a washer, put the washer back on, adjusted the gasket... Nothing worked. The handle is still loose and that small gap from the pictures is still there, though the door is tight. Guess I'll have to have the guy from the stove shop come out afterall. Thanks again for your help!

Cate - FWIW i think maybe either your door is warped or it has possibly come out of its shell. There should be small set screws on the bottom of the door shell which "lock" it onto the door itself. Maybe this is what is causing it to be off a bit or binding up crooked even though you are able to get it closed? Admittedly it does seem unlikely... Also, if you have your guy come out to fix it ask him to put some anti-sieze on the door pins. It will help in a couple ways - you will be able to get the pins out in the future and even though it is not actually a lubricant, it will allow you to tap the pins back down if they walk up again in the future. I'll be curious to know how it gets fixed. Good luck!

Maybe this is what is causing it to be off a bit or binding up crooked even though you are able to get it closed? Admittedly it does seem unlikely... Also, if you have your guy come out to fix it ask him to put some anti-sieze on the door pins. It will help in a couple ways - you will be able to get the pins out in the future and even though it is not actually a lubricant, it will allow you to tap the pins back down if they walk up again in the future. I think since I'll have some extra muscle around the house on Friday, and I have 2 weeks until the service guy shows up, I'll work on that pin and see we can get it to go down. I'll keep you posted.

I have a similar problem with my door, however after taking the nut off the door cam will NOT slide off.

Any ideas ????

Disregard. I sprayed some PB blaster on it and it loosened up enough to come off.
