Good morning everyone. I've been reading a few threads about t-meter placement. my lopi insert sticks out past the surround around 7" so i have a stovetop to take readings on. i am still new with this insert and i thought i should be putting my stove top t-meter on the hottest part of the top. The book that came with the insert says to put it directly above the door. There seems to be a 100 degree difference when I put it in the recommended location. My question is since they don't specify an overfire temp should I be reading the recommended location or the hottest part for the most efficient burn??

The manual does specify over 800 as overfire. I've gotten it over 800, though, on a few occasions and have not seen any problems. I have my thermometer just to the left of the bypass handle. You'll notice, though, that the temperature will vary all over the stove top using an IR gun. I just use the magnetic thermometer on the stove top as a guide.

This is my 3rd year using the Freedom. It's a beast.
