As a general rule, I try to avoid pellets at big box stores unless I'm in a pinch. There are exceptions of course but they tend to be of a lower quality.
 
These are very low quality, lots of ash, not so much heat. your results may vary. Try a few bags before committing to a ton. I would keep shopping.
 
Ive burned a lot of them I have a huge ash pan though I have never actually filled it up. They do make a lot of ash but I felt the heat was comparable to a more expensive pellet.
