Old farmhouse. Chimney is concrete block. There is a clay or ceramic thimble through the wall into block chimney. There is a 1.5 square foot area cut out in siding. The thimble is 9 inches outside diameter. The thimble has mortar around it and it had bricks filling in the space around thimble and opening in siding. When I opened walls up all the brick fell out. What is the best way to reconnect this stove through wall into chimney?

That thimble was installed by guess and by golly. It does not conform to code due to the short clearance from the crock to the combustible wood. Here is an article explaining the requirements and some options.
