Im interested in hearing from those who have modified the air intake.

I have a Lopi Freedom (2006 model) and would like to be able to close it down completely if need be or more so than the factory limit. Looks like a simple operation to remove a screw limiting the travel of the air adjustment handle.

Reasons for this are:
In case of over fire shutoff supply to kill fire.

Increased burn time

Are there any cons to closing off the Air, more so than designed, aside from creosote biuldup?

Increased smoke/pollution to the air we all have to breath.

Most likely you won't gt much "advice" here for altering your EPA stove. And with good reason.

It would be waaaaaaay better to spend your time and resources learning how to burn so that you don't get an over-fire.
Yes I know, we all have had or came close to overfiring the stove, but it only takes practice to get to where you will feel comfortable and confident.

Don't alter it, adjust your burn. IMHO, if you permanently change your stove, you may be tempted to "rely" on closing off the air fully.

For an over fire, you can use the FAN. You can try to cover the air inlet (temporarily), you can open the door the full way, (let's all the hot air rush up flue) etc. You can learn to shut down the air sooner and in increments to avoid getting to an over fire. And you can get in the habit of NOT walking away from the stove until it is settled in to a level burn.

Best wishes,,,,burn safe, burn clean.:)

Is there a full liner on the insert? How tall is the liner?
