This weekend we finally ran out of cherry and I took my first load of ash into the basement. I pulled one of the heavier pieeices out of the load and split it to check with the meter. I really only wanted to confirm that it was below 20%...I would have been stunned if it wasn't since it has been seasoning for about 12 months. I checked the cherry once in awhile thru the winter and it was always around 20% after seasoning for close to 12 months, but the ash measured at 10 to 12%!! Did not expect that even though I know ash is comparatively lower in initial mc than a lot of wood....but did not expect to see readings that low.
This stuff burns real nice in our gasifier....it's been like shoulder season lately and coals seem to start up very easily. This has me feeling good about next heating season as that wood will be mostly ash and will have 12+ months seasoning.
