Purchased a harbor freight moisture meter $15. Worth every penny to me.

Here are some of my findings. I have purchased some sweet dry Almond. 1/2 chord Spit some and have 0-2%.
Have some Mulberry cut about 3 months ago split couple open 34%.
Have about 1/3 chord of Heartwood Mesquite fresh cut 60+%. (Stuff on the roof to season)

0-2% !! wow, never had a reading near that for wood. A MM is a great tool to prove your intuition is wrong more often than not.

Ya it sat out in the Vegas sun for a couple of years. My supplier has been there for 20+ years.
They got a stash of mountain mahogany 4year. getting some of that.
I burned about 3/4 chord of pinyon pine. last season we only have about 3 1/2 months.

I hate to be a stickler, but it's cord, not chord. For some reason that drives me crazy. Last time I was in Vegas it was mid September and the average temps were 95-100 every day - What are the winter months, 70-80??

Ok, ok, let him reboot his post...

You are not alone on the chord vs cord - I ain't playin the Star Bangled Banner on my wood pile! Take way to long to try and tune it in a uncontrolled atmosphere.;lol
