As I understand things, they would be equal as long as the feed dial and blowera are set the same for each.

In my opinion,depends on when you check it.In stove mode,wide open,is max.In room temp mode,I think the newer the control board,it "may" taper back the heat,the closer it gets to the board setting.Just some experiments i have done with 2 boards in my stove.
 
Good point. If the room temp approached 85 +*F in room temp mode the stove would begin throttling back.
 
Stove temp cranked will just keep cranking till you run out of pellets or melt.!!! room temp has its benefits but can be finicky if the probe is in a bad location
 
So, in Maryland where temps have been 52 today and 9 last weekend, room temp made sense... but I ran it on stove mode and recently and got my house to 70 as opposed to 68 max in room mode. I believe you're correct that in room it throttles back as the target temperature is approached. Large house, room with high ceilings. I'm enjoying the extra heat!
