This is my first and last year burning Hamer’s Hot Ones due to all the ash. Apparently they used to be 100% oak but they aren’t anymore. It looks like people are having good luck with Forest Fuel which is 100% oak from a relatively new manufacturer in Southwest VA (Musser). A supplier near me has both Forest Fuel and Forest Brands which is also 100% oak and by the same manufacturer but is about $20 cheaper a ton and on par with big box prices in our area for what may be a better quality pellet.

Anyone have any experience yet with Forest Brands (white bag)? I’d like to see if Forest Fuel is worth the premium or not. I have a Harman P68 which will burn anything but a little less ash than what the Hamer’s are putting out this year would be nice.

I've been a dedicated Hamers burner since 2011 and have not experienced an abnormal amount of ash. However, when I went to my Agway the other day to buy more they were out of stock on the Hamers and suggested Forest Fuel as an alternative. I've only burned three bags but so far I'm happy and they are 20 cents cheaper per bag so I'm a potential convert.

Was it in the brown or white bag?

My hearth shop is a former Agway and since the old Agway pellets were rebagged Hamer’s a lot of them sell them now that Agway doesn’t carry their own brand. But I’ll be interested to see if they have Forest Fuel. They is another retailer near me who sells them but they’re a bit further away, plus they only sell by the ton so I’d like to try some first.
