My dad has never been selective about what species go in the stove. And his non-selectivity has hit an all-time low in the last 10 years since I've been cutting his firewood. Hemlock, willow, cottonwood, cedar - he just doesn't care.
I am assuming that is a joke. To this point, I have only used hardwoods, but have been convinced by many posts that properly cured pine/softwoods are perfectly fine to burn in inserts. I have started collecting such wood by the side of road to augment my stock.
