hello, been posting now for a week or so... thought i'd show ya what i got in terms of wood..

btw.. the names matt, and i want to thank all of you who been posting answers to my noob questions

heres the cherry...paid 100 bucks for it

does this look dry??

i bought this little pile for 100 too... it's seasoned mixed hard wood

where the cherry is going so i can get another load of oak and cherry....found a guy selling cords for 125 delivered!!

don't know what type of wood this is... but a 27 ton spliter wouldn't split it...

oh yeah, you wood cord experts... how many cords does it look like i have?

i'm thinking almost 2 with both piles...

the one covered is on 2- 3x4 pallets and stacked 4 foot high

Matt: that is one fine looking doggy. too bad you chose a friday before a long weekend for a serious question. However, here is some advice--spend the long weekend stacking it in a nice long row. measure it, height and length, and let us know the approx. cut size--ie. 16" 18"- or what?

Then ask again, or do the calcs yourself, keeping in mind that a cord of wood = 128 cu.ft.

Simple math, really simple. You just have to stack it to see for yourself. ;-) between barbequing that is.

The last picture, the gnarly nasty piece........thats one of those pieces I will get fed up with and just throw it into the pile and worry about it later.....good eye candy!
Its one of those chunks...... when loading the fire, it ignites the fine hair splinters before its all the way into the stove !

well seems most people like the dog over the cherry...haha.........don't blame ya! she's a good lab, 3 yrs old, english breed... hunted her since 6mths old... and i feed her Nature's Recipe Lamb Meal & Rice Dry Dog Food...

most of the cherry is about 19"-20" long... i'll be stacking all weekend... don't plan on getting much donetommorow..... as my stove and chimney are being put in, in the morning!!...(pics by afternoon)

i'm thrown a labor day party/bon-fire tommowor (using pine) and i think that peice might "fall" into the fire pit

The Cherry looks freshly split or a couple months old. The nasty stringy stuff is Elm, mine looks just like it. Elm holds alot of water, dry it out for a year and it will burn fine. Try not to cover your whole pile, just cover the top so it can breath. $125 per cord delivered is a steal, get all you can.

That gnarly stuff looks like Elm to me! I have a few pieces in my pile I've been splitting and they are awful! I finally found the technique you mentioned (taking small splits off the outside). Definitely a great workout, although it does nothing to relieve frustration (at least compared to a nice straight, clean piece of oak)!
