Narrow fireplace, what are my options?

Hey all,

I'm looking at putting an insert into my fireplace but I'm not entirely sure what my options are due to its shape -- it gets narrow from front to back. The opening of the fireplace is 31.25"l x 23" h and it is 17" w. The issue is that the fireplace is only 23"l at the back. I was just wondering if this is normal for fireplaces and whether putting an insert in is possible -- a standalone woodstove isn't an option for me because the room this is going in is relatively small. I was looking at the Drolet Escape 1400 insert available at Costco (in Canada), but I don't think it would fit.

I don’t know anything about the Drolet. More information about your situation would be helpful. Room size, square feet of the house? Are you looking for ambiance/ supplemental heat or primary heat/ long burn times?

I have one on my fireplace hearth vented up through the chimney. Short burn times though.

My fireplace is shaped similarly to yours and I recently had a Timber Wolf EPI22 installed as an insert. Great unit. Very happy with it. The insert is a bit out on the mantle to accommodate the shape but otherwise I think it looks great.

The room size is about 15x12, total square footage of the house is 1400sq ft. We're looking for supplemental heat, particularly on really cold days/nights when the heat pump cuts out.

That Timberwolf is really nice, I just read some specs on it though and it says the minimum width is 25 7/8" wide and 14" d. At 14"d, it looks like I have about 25 3/4" width maximum.
